Attention deficit hyper activity disorder (ADHD) is a mental disorder whose symptoms can be categorized into 2 types:

  • inattentiveness
  • impulsiveness and hyperactivity

The main signs of inattentiveness include:

  • Trouble holding attention on tasks.
  • Often being easily distracted.
  • Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes.
  • Avoiding, disliking, or reluctance toward doing tasks that require mental effort over an extended period of time.
  • Often has trouble organizing tasks and activities.
  • Often loses things necessary for tasks and activities.
  • Being forgetful in daily activities.

The main signs of impulsiveness include:

  • Constantly changing tasks.
  • Being unable to wait their turn.
  • Interrupting conversations.
  • Acting without thinking.
  • Little or no sense of danger.
  • Struggles to delay gratification.

The main signs of hyperactivity are:

  • Being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings.
  • Constant fidgeting.
  • Excessive physical movement.
  • Excessive talking.

ADHD symptoms arise from executive dysfunction due to impairments in the prefrontal cortex. ADHD patients also show reduced volume in the cerebellum, which can cause disjointed attention.
