Piti
- Novelty is handled by the right hemisphere, and is transferred to the left hemisphere as it becomes familiar
- The right hemisphere handles alertness, vigilance, sustained attention, and divided attention
Piti is a volitional formation associated with the jhanas. It is described as a stimulating, exciting and energizing quality, as opposed to the calmness of sukha. The neurotransmitter norepinephrine is said to be responsible for the sensation.
